He got lost and found himself face to face with a stuffed penguin at an out-of-the-way taxidermist. He bought it, named him Pete and the two became fast friends. Until the flight home, Pete's head got knocked off and a flight attendant used Pederson's tie to remedy the situation, remarking on what a dapper bird he was. Thus was born a true American classic.
